In music, all students use instruments, movement, and singing to gain an appreciation of music as well as connect to general education classes.  These experiences will prepare them for joining, if they choose, other musical experiences such as band and chorus.

Students in all grade levels experiment with multiple types of instruments provided in the music room.  Specifically, third grade will begin learning recorders.  A recorder will be supplied to them to use during class,  and they will bring them home at the end of the year.   In addition to singing and instruments, students also learn about musical genres and famous musicians.

Northside has a honors chorus for students in grades 4-5.  Students must audition for this chorus with Northside's music teacher, Mrs. Bunton.  Team members perform at special functions such as the Arts Extravaganza and the Veterans Victory House, as well as, other events around the community.

In addition, ALL students have the opportunity to perform at a PTO event during the year.  Dates will be announced  in our monthly newsletters, class DOJO, this website, and our school's Facebook page.

I was awarded Northside Elementary's Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007 and 2019-2020. I am also the Co-Director of Colleton Children's Theater.  I give private voice and piano lessons. I am a member of Bethel United Methodist Church's choir and Agape Praise Band.

Message to Parents:

Music is more than just singing. In my class, we learn how music is made, how it works, and why. We create sound experiences and we use music as a way to express ourselves.  Music is an integral part of other subject areas and I will be integrating core subject areas into weekly music lessons as well as work with classroom teachers to help them infuse music into their lessons.

Message to Students:

Music is everywhere and for everyone. Listen to the sounds all around you and appreciate the differences. Music is there for self expression and no one can take that away. Never be afraid to try something new and be true to yourself.
